SOCIAL MEDIA EFFECT FOR TEENAGERS

1. INTRODUCTION

     Communication is one of the main characteristics of humans as social beings. Communication is carried out by 2 or more people, usually by verbally or using sign language. Eventually, social media began to enter our lives, which leads to communication or interaction among people. By the presence of social media, people are more likely to communicate with each other using social media, especially teenagers. Social media is either used for making assignments, discussing group work, or just looking for entertainment (games, chats, etc.). Because of this, there are some problems such as, humans become less concerned or even do not care about their environment if they are already active on social media.

2. RESEARCH METHOD

     The research was conducted by taking qualitative data on some interviews and observations. The interview is an interview or question and answer process. The observation is the activities to know the previous knowledge of a phenomenon. To obtain various information needed in continuing the research, we did this method with some of the 8th grade students of TARAKANITA Middle School,   we interviewed 35 students and we observed a few. Then we arranged the results using tables and diagrams to make it clearer.

3. RESULT AND ANALYSIS

     The results of this study are the impacts arising from this event. There are negative and positive impacts. Positive impacts will arise if we wisely use social media. Here are some positive impacts: as a means of education, a means of developing hobbies, and a place to socialize with others. Meanwhile, negative impacts will arise if we are addicted to social media, lack of concern for the surrounding environment, and appear various health / psychological disorders.

4. CONCLUSION

As teenagers today, we must be wiser in using social media, don’t use it in negative ways. If it continues to occur, more and more negative impacts will emerge and will endanger ourselves and even endanger the whole community. The future of the world is in the hands of today's youth. So we must be able to control ourselves so that the future is bright.
