1. Introduction
A fault is a crack in the earth caused by the movements that are the result of the interaction of three main tectonic plates which are the Eurasian plate, the Pacific plate, and the Indo-Australian plate. The Lembang fault was formed since Mount Sunda erupted 180,000 years ago. The Lembang fault divides the northern part of Bandung City through the length of 29 km from Batu Lembang Mountain (east) to Cimeta Padalarang (west) with a depth of 10 km. The Lembang Fault is an active fault, moving at a velocity of 3 to 6 millimeters per year and capable of producing earthquakes of up to 7 Richter Scale with a recurrence time of 170-670 years. Researches reveal that this fault had moved and caused a tectonic earthquake with a measuring of 6.8 Richter Scale about 2000 years ago.
Jakarta is the capital state of Indonesia which is located about 150 km from Lembang to the northwest. In addition to its dense population, there are also many high-rise buildings in Jakarta.
Earthquake shocks are spread to all directions. With that, the following problems were found:
If the Lembang fault moves and causes an earthquake, will Jakarta feel the impact?
What should be done to anticipate the magnitude/level of damage to buildings in Jakarta due to the earthquake in the Lembang fault?
so this research was made to analyze the possible impacts that occur in Jakarta if an earthquake occurs in the Lembang fault.
2. Research Method
This research is a qualitative research based on literature studies. This research uses two samples of earthquake data. First, the earthquake that occurred in Central Sulawesi on September 28, 2018. Second, the earthquake that occurred in Lombok on August 5, 2018.
The data used in this study were obtained from reliable sources. Detailed data about Central Sulawesi and Lombok earthquakes was obtained from the BMKG earthquake catalog. Then, the data is analyzed.
3. Results and Analysis
Here are the facts that occurred in the earthquake in Central Sulawesi and the earthquake in Lombok.
Shallow earthquakes usually cause more damage than medium and deep earthquakes.
Based on the MMI scale information from BMKG, the level of damage that might occur on scale VI is that the buildings will experience minor damage.
With a distance of Lembang - Jakarta that is less than 200 km, it is possible to have a greater impact on the MMI scale of VI.
4. Conclusion and Recomendation
If an earthquake occurs due to the Lembang fault with a magnitude of 7 :
Jakarta will be affected by mild to moderate damage to buildings in Jakarta.
What must be done as an anticipation of the earthquake is to review buildings in Jakarta by conducting an earthquake resistance test.
It is recommended for Jakarta residents to be aware of the possibility of an earthquake from the Lembang fault. Also when building constructions in Jakarta, make sure that the building construction is calculated for its resistance of earthquakes with a magnitude of 7 so there is no damage to buildings that may cause casualties.
